Beautiful evening and very good conditions for the 10 k finals—no one told the competitors though and they ran as if they were death marching through the Mojave.
Men’s race 16:12 at 5 k with Olympic Bronze Medalist Grant Fisher —who just recently ran a 12:54 5k sandbagging lallygagging in DFL!

USATF National 2026 Day IV Old Hat
Some excellent racing yesterday in the Steeplechase and W 1500. The men raced about 300m to an exciting finish…3:50.

I moved from my cheap seats in 207 over to 203 at the finish line and found some friends and acquaintances and celebrities there.
Also good viewing of men’s Javelin Curtis Thompson launched a bomb and I watched it sail through the sky seemingly over tall buildings through the clouds and land gently decisively beyond…

New York’s Mayor made an appearance to the delight of the crowd. Nice to see one of our leaders generate that kind of enthusiasm—perhaps he is in his honeymoon period still.
A little bit surprising to see so many “Stop Pre” t shirts. For me the spirit of Pre —the idea that if you shared the start line with him you knew there would be no pussyfooting around.
That spirit seems dead and forgotten. Pre and his spirit has been stopped.
Tough getting off the island after the meet and lost my cell service—hello Rangoon.
I give this meet good marks I guess because I personally am having such a good time. I thought yesterday’s crowd was solid close to capacity. Others noticed many empty seats. A lot of people did arrive late.
Nothing against Eugene they do a good job—but if you wanna see empty seats…
Point is/-there needs to be many track towns and NYC one of them.

Another beautiful day at Icahn—here are a few highlights.
W 5000–Good to see Parker Valby back —she always keeps the pace honest. Hoolihan and Mackay stalked her until the last few laps and Mackay who was third in the 1500 blasted the last 200m for the W.
She is becoming one of my favorite athletes.
M800 also a good one Cooper Lutkenhaus looking unbeatable in the closing 100m.
M5000 started promising but slowed down a lot in the middle. Kind of a disappointing race.

Valerie Sion dominated the Discus making her an 8 time champ. She commented on her love for NYC and the fact that she had never competed in a National outside of Eugene.
I’ll drink to that.
Nice reunion and honor given to Coach Frank Gagliano “Gags” with many of his former athletes paying tribute. I was able to visit with him briefly myself.
Much respect.
I’ve had a lovely time in New Yawk —really had to up my game to keep up with all the action. Don’t get out much.
I feel as if our sport of Athletics is still bumbling along with lots of lost potential mostly due to the leaders of the sport.
Regardless I’m always up for another 3 ring circus.
